About Allyson

Certified Health Coach and Functional Nutritionist

Because wellness is a lifestyle, not a destination, and you don’t have to go-it alone.

I set out to complete my B.S. in Dietetics at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, only to become disillusioned by the incredible political influence Big Business had on the field of dietetics at the time. After taking a detour, and instead completing my Master’s degree in Communication Studies, I spent over a decade teaching and coaching talented working professionals within Fortune 500 Companies and Universities, only to find myself back where I started – learning about nutrition and examining how it could help with my debilitating health issues.

I struggled with weight my whole life, but it wasn’t until my late 20’s when it caught up with me.  That’s the funny thing about health, we can feel good (even if we’re doing some unkind things to our bodies) and then seemingly suddenly, not feel so good. Our unhealthy lifestyle habits may take decades, months, or weeks to catch up with us.

My struggles began as a young girl. I was always pudgy, wishing I was thin like my friends, feeling left out because I didn’t fit in the same trendy clothes that they looked so cute in. It wasn’t until I was in graduate school, when I got really sick that I finally figured out how to manage my weight. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was living the perfect-storm-of-a-life for sickness:

            •  High stress from full time work and graduate school
            •  High stress on my body from chronic cardio.  You know how students typically go to a coffee shop or library to studyI’d go to the gym and camp out on the cardio equipment with my highlighter.
            • Vegetarian for 15+ years, which led to serious nutritional deficiencies.

Despite leading, what I thought was a very ‘healthy’ life, I was suffering from a myriad of chronic illnesses that prevented me from feeling Happy and Healthy.

I struggled to find answers to my health issues for more than 5 years.  I went to some of the most prestigious institutions to find answers, only to be turned away.  I didn’t know what questions to ask or what lab work to request.  The practitioners I saw looked at me and didn’t take my concerns seriously because they saw a young, healthy looking woman.  But I was suffering inside, and I didn’t know how to advocate for my needs. It became evident after 5 years of trying to find answers with conventional medical practitioners, that the allopathic system wasn’t equipped to find the source of my health struggles, and I didn’t want to take medications to mask my symptoms – I wanted to find resolve and the root cause of my suffering.

After exhaustive research and partnering with my own village of progressive, functional practitioners that included acupuncture, nutrition therapy, naturopathic and functional medicine – I finally found resolve to my symptoms.  Along the way I discovered with the right community of support, the right nutrients, movements, rest, and mindfulness practices, the body will restore its natural balance.

And for the first time in my life I figured out how to manage my weight without starving myself or eating cardboard or watching my weight yo-yo once I began eating again.

It’s this discovery that lead me to shift from coaching ‘career wellness’ to coaching life and wellness skills.

I went back to school to become a certified Nutritionist, Health Coach, and functional nutrition practitioner. I am currently enrolled in Precision Nutrition’s certification program, as I am always looking for ways to forward my understanding of our complex human body.

Our health care system is broken – it is a sick care system.  It is a system that is great at treating acute issues, but fails at preventing disease.  And the majority of our modern diseases are preventable and reversible, and they are typically rooted in poor lifestyle habits.  With simple and sustainable habits you can take back your body and experience a healthy weight, digestion, skin, energy sleep, cycles, moods..

I pride myself on spending time with you, listening to you, helping you advocate for your health needs and identifying root causes of unwanted ymptoms – because no one should have to experience anything less than a life filled with true health and happiness!

I take great care in making a Healthy Lifestyle simple and sustainable!

It takes a commitment, not a sentence. This is your life, make it fulfilling with the foods, fitness, rest, and mindfulness that bring your life joy and meaning!

I welcome the opportunity to answer any questions with a Free 15 Minute Consultation.
